MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Dr. Richard Bailey and Mary Ann Neeley are exploring Old Line Street in Downtown Montgomery on February 19th starting at 9 a.m.
Old Line Street is now West Jeff Davis Avenue. Line Street was, until the late 19th century, the southern limits of the City of Montgomery. The name was changed in the 1880s in honor of Jefferson Davis and his last trip to Montgomery. Of course, by that time, the area was no longer the southern boundary.
The tour begins at the corner of Court Street and West Jeff Davis and will last about two hours. Places on the tour include some private homes, Bobby Jackson’s Heritage Museum, the Mt. Zion Church and a special interest will also be taken with the architecture along the way, people and the changes that have taken place over the years.
For the best experience please wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather (layers are best as the day warms up) and bring a bottle of water. In case of inclement weather the tour will be rescheduled. Tour is $5 per person and free for Landmarks Foundation members. Call 334.240.4500 or visit www.oldalabamatown.com for more information.
