During the months of February and March 2011, the Civil War Sesquicentennial will come alive in Montgomery, Alabama at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. The marking of the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War will be presented in two different plays. The two plays are The Flag Maker of Market Street and Blood Divided. Both plays contain some mature themes are and are suggested for ages 13 and up. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, one of the preeminent theatres in the nation and the Southeastern United States.

This incredible play begins its run just before Valentine’s Day on February 4, 2011. The drama is written by Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder. This plot revolves around Montgomery store owner George Cowles and the fine line he has to walk between the division of his city and his state, as well as the rest of the nation. He caters to the Confederacy while holding secret Unionist meetings in his back room. Cowles is then asked to create the first Confederate Flag. It is then he has to make a choice between upholding his convictions and living a lie. Pricing begins at $25.00.
