MONTGOMERY -- Nashville songwriters Jerry Salley and Larry Cordle, who have hundreds of songs recorded by some of the greatest artists in country music and who have performed with numerous country, bluegrass, and gospel musicians, will appear together August 7, 2011, at 3 p.m. at the Capri Theatre in Montgomery.
Salley, the 2003 SESAC Country Music Songwriter of the Year, has songs that have sold over 14 million records worldwide. Cordle has worked on projects that have sold more than 55 million records.
Salley's songs have been recorded by artists such as Elton John, Reba McEntire, Loretta Lynn, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, The Oak Ridge Boys, Gene Watson, Patty Loveless, Travis Tritt, Tracey Lawrence, Mark Chesnutt, and The Blind Boys of Alabama.
Cordle has worked on projects involving numerous music legends, including Ricky Skaggs, Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, George Strait, Trisha Yearwood, Diamond Rio, Alan Jackson, and Trace Adkins.
Salley, who has been nominated for six gospel Dove awards and won the Dove for the 1990 Inspirational Song of the Year, has written seven Number One country hits in Australia. He penned Elton John's only single to appear on the Billboard Country Chart - "Where We Both Say Goodbye." He also wrote "I'm Gonna Take That Mountain" by Reba McEntire and "I Fell In The Water" by John Anderson.
Salley has performed as a soloist at the Grand Ole Opry and he has appeared on several television shows, including The Today Show and Late Night With David Letterman.
Cordle, who wrote Ricky Skaggs' Number One song "Highway 40 Blues", has provided harmony vocals for Garth Brooks, Blake Shelton, Bradley Walker, Billy Yates, and Rebecca Lynn Howard. With his band Lonesome Standard Time, Cordle was awarded song of the year by the International Bluegrass Music Association on two separate occasions, garnered two Grammy nominations for best bluegrass album, and received nominations for vocal group and instrumental group.
The two songwriters collaborated with Carl Jackson to record the song "You're Running Wild" on the Louvin Brothers Tribute on Universal South Records. The album features numerous country music stars singing songs made famous by the legendary duo. The project, entitled "Livin', Lovin', Losin' - Songs of the Louvin Brothers" won the 2003 Grammy for Country Album of the Year.
The August 7 show at the Capri Theatre is sponsored by The Alabama Roots Music Society, a non-profit organization committed to bringing roots music talent to central Alabama at very affordable prices.
Tickets to the show go on sale July 18 at The Capri Theatre and Capitol Book & News in Cloverdale. Admission is $10 in advance; $8 for ARMS members; or $12 on the day of the show. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.
