Join us at noon on Thursday, February 23, 2012 as George Wallace, Jr. presents George Wallace, The Man You Never Knew By The Man Who Knew Him Best. This informative talk and book signing will be held at the Alabama Department of Archives and History.
"We had become the focal point of threats and found ourselves in the middle of the civil rights controversy by virtue of being the family of George C. Wallace," states George Wallace, Jr. Wallace notes that "the bargain [his father] made on segregation gave him the power he had always sought, but this bargain also brought him many regrets." In his new book Wallace takes a close look at his family and what it was like inside his home with a storm raging outside.
George Wallace, Jr. was born in Eufaula and is a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery. He received a BA in history from Huntingdon College and continued his education with graduate work at AUM in Public Administration and Political Science. He served two terms as Alabama State Treasurer and two terms on the Alabama Public Service Commission. He has worked at Troy University in Montgomery and AUM. Currently, he writes, speaks, and records music in semi-retirement.
The public is invited to bring a sack lunch and enjoy a bit of Alabama history. The event is free and is sponsored by the Friends of the Alabama Archives. Books will be available for purchase. For more information, call (334) 353-4726. www.archives.alabama.gov
