MONTGOMERY ZOO: JOIN US SATURDAY NOVEMBER 12, 2011 @ 11:00am to celebrate our African Elephant calf’s fourth birthday. Makena was born on November 9, 2007. Makena is the first African elephant born in the State of Alabama and only the 16th born in the United States. In celebration of her fourth birthday, we are inviting everyone to join us in the festivities. We will be providing Makena with a special elephant cake filled with her favorite foods and snacks. Don’t worry, the human kids attending her party will be provided cupcakes, prizes and games to play.
As a special treat, the two elephant keepers that help care for Makena, her mom and auntie will give guests some insight on what it is like to raise an elephant from birth to where she is today. Not only will this be a fun event, but one that is educational as well. There will also be an opportunity to have a Q&A session with the keepers.
In an effort to raise funds and food donations for the Montgomery Area Food Bank prior to Thanksgiving, we are asking all participants and guests for the day to bring non-perishable food donations or monetary donations. Guests that provide a food and/or monetary donations to the Food Bank will be able to attend Makena’s birthday party, plus receive a 20% discount on your admission to the Montgomery Zoo.
MONTGOMERY ZOO INFO. The Montgomery Zoo is open 9:00am – 5:30pm, 362 days per year. The Admission and Front Gate stops selling tickets and major exhibits begin closing at 4:30pm. Combo admission to the Zoo and Mann Museum is: Adults $14, Children (3-12yrs) $10, Toddlers (2yrs and younger) FREE. Zoo only admission is: Adults $10, Seniors (65 yrs and older) $9, Children (3-12yrs) $7, Toddlers (2yrs and younger) FREE. Montgomery Zoo members are FREE. Group and military discounts are available. Train ride: $3 per person. Giraffe Encounter: $2 per person. Pedal Boats: $8 for the first person, $10 for two, $12 for three and $14 for four; maximum of four passengers per boat, 30 minute ride.
